Liumchen Lake Trail is a difficult to find trail. One of the good things of hiking in Chilliwack is that you hike more than you drive. By the way, you need a 4x4 for the last 2 km before the trailhead.
The bad weather was still present on the Lower Mainland and for a second I was thinking to try this hike for another day.
The trail was plenty of blueberries and a black bear was eating like crazy. After making noise the bear ran away.
The first 1.5 km are very steep but at the top and in a sunny day you will have beautiful views.
There is a viewpoint out of the trail.
This is a protected area, and one of the main objectives is to protect the Spotted Owls, an endangered species. The Canadian Wildlife Service estimates there is a population of 25-100 birds in British Columbia.
Three years ago I had a one time experience to see one of them. At that time I didn't know what I saw. Later on I learned that the spotted white head and hind-neck bird was a Spotted Owl.
