With winter coming to an end I decided to explore the surroundings of the Coquihalla Highway. On the map, my finger pointed to a lake somehow closed to the highway. To reach this place take the Clearwater exit and after five minutes you will turn towards Murray Lake Rd.
I was planning to do some snowshoeing, I saw two trucks blocking the entrance of the Forest Service Road. The guys told me that the lake was only five kilometres away from this point
Then I started my hike on a very nice road, this is the time of the year where not many snowmobiles venture into such low elevations but still the snow is deep enough to stop most cars. Maybe in four weeks the snow will be gone.
On my ascent I have some views of the Coquihalla Highway
This Forest Service Road provides access to two very popular fishing lakes, Murray and Gillis Lake. Some people coming from the Lower Mainland usually complain because they have to pay the toll.
After maybe 90 minutes, finally I reached the lake. I only used the snowshoes on the last two kilometres of my hike. During my way up I was passed by two snowmobiles. At that point it started to snow.
The temperature dropped like crazy, and I was only wearing a sweater. Fortunately I was carrying a jacket that a good friend of mine gave me for my birthday. Hey Ken, wherever you were at that moment, thank you very much, that jacket is very warm.
The mini-blizzard started to go away. Very soon I started to walk on the lake.
Then I was greeted by the snowmobilers. The guy on the snowboard was doing something that I only see on water. Very cool, isn't it?
One of the guys was doing snow fishing. He told me that he likes this area a lot and is very usual to see black bears walking around
On my way back, again heavy snow started to fall and I had some visibility problems. This brought me memories of my hike on Blowdown Pass. I am glad today I choose an easy walk, this is not the kind of weather I want to find on the alpine.
